Yesterday the mayor of Reykjavík, Dagur B. Eggertsson, announced on his Twitter feed that the street of Bratthöfði in the Höfði industrial district would be renamed Svarthöfði, which translates either as Black-cape, or Darth Vader, as Svarthöfði is the Sith Lord‘s name in Icelandic.

The mayor did not stop there in his efforts to please Star Wars fans. Feeling he was on a roll he followed his original Twitter post with a comment where he proposed that the house numbers along the street would be arranged in the official Star Wars manner: 4, 5, 6 followed with 1, 2, 3.

Sóley Tómasdóttir, City Councilwoman for the Left Green Alliance, which is part of the majority coalition in power in City Hall, along with the Social democrats, led by Dagur, Bright future, the successor party to Jón Gnarr‘s Best Party and the Pirate party, seconded the suggestion on Twitter, pointing out that the correct order of house numbers along Darth Vader street would have to be 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9.

Another Twitter user suggested that a second street, Höfðabakki, which runs through the Höfði industrial district, should be renamed Chewbakki, after the Wookiee warrior and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon. We at Iceland Insider second that suggestion!
