Owners of Hótel Rangá on the south coast of Iceland have constructed an astronomical viewpoint on the hotel grounds. The house, which has a fold-away roof, comes complete with two astronomical telescopes.
The hotel is located midway between the small towns of Hella and Hvoldsvöllur meaning the night sky is not obscured by the glare of industrial lights. Members of the Seltjarnarnes Astronomy Club assisted hotel owner Friðrik Pálsson when it came to picking the best telescopes available for the new astronomical viewpoint.
“The night sky conditions near Rangá are excellent for stargazing,” said Sævar Helgi Bragason, member of Seltjarnarnes Astronomy Club when asked about the hotel’s star gazing facilities.
