Investors from the town of Selfoss in South Iceland are planning a hotel by Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations, the local business weekly Viðskiptablaðið reports. According to the sources of Viðskiptablaðið the plan is still in its initial stages. The investors have already secured an agreement with local landowners for land near the waterfall where the planned hotel would be built.

One of the investors tells Viðskiptablaðið that they plan to finalize the purchase of the land by the end of the month, after which they will begin negotioations with the relevant authorities for permission to build the hotel.

The hotel would rise in the land of a farm named Seljalandssel. The farm and the land, which is 216 ha (533 ac), but also includes a stake in a much larger tract of undivided communally owned land, which includes the famed waterfall. The listing for the farm and the land is still active. The local real-estate agency Árborg had listed 80,000,000 ISK (620,000 USD/570,000 EUR) as the asking price for the land. Although the farm itself, and other structures on the land, are clearly in need of some TLC and the work of a handy-man, the view is worth every penny!
