There will be a sizzling hot atmosphere in the hot tub cinema at the Reykjavík International Film Festival ( RIFF). The atmosphere in Iceland's geothermal hot tubs has been compared to the atmosphere in cafés in France and pubs in UK. This is where the locals meet, relax and gossip. Some even play a game of chess. RIFF is taking the hot tub experience to a new level with cinema screenings during the upcoming festival.
RIFF has organised a unique event that takes the traditional Icelandic hot-tub discussion three steps further. Musician and journalist Haukur Viðar Alfreðsson will be screening his short film Steingrímur at the hot tub and discusses the art of Icelandic cinema with guests. Icelandic comedian Ari Eldjárn will be screening his legendary movie Ber er hver ( Naked) in the hot tub that same night.
The third movie is dance piece Requiem by Sigríður Soffía Marinosdóttir and photographer Marino Thorlacius. Sigríður Soffia has choreographed the fireworks at Reykjavik Harbour for the last two years and this is her third dance film. Her previous films have been shown at over 20 international film festivals and received numerous awards.
The event takes place twice at the film festival this year, on September 20th in Kópavogur swimming pool and on October 1st in Vesturbæjarlaug swimming pool.
