The company Zalibuna ehf hopes to construct a 1300 metre-long (427 ft) summer bobsled course down the slopes of Hlíðarfjall mountain in Akureyri, North Iceland. The estimated cost of the project is 130 million krónur (840.281 euros/1.022.414 US dollars).
Zalibuna’s managing director, Davíð Örn Símonarson, told Vísir.is that the company also wishes to run a café inside Hlíðarfjall’s ski lodge, which is closed during the summer months.
“The slopes of Hlíðarfjall are perfect for a bobsled course and from the café guests will have a wonderful panoramic view over Eyjafjörður fjord,” the director explained.
According to Ingibjörg Ólöf Isaksen, member of the town council, no decisions have been made and will most likely not be made within the next year.
“We have only just begun to discuss the idea and have yet to take any decisions regarding the matter.”
