Jónas Þrastarson, the son of the woman who drove the young hitchhiker and found the camera, has announced in a local Facebook group dedicated to Icelandic tour guides and others in the tourism industry, that the young woman has been found, thanking everyone who helped.
The German hitchhiker was found with the help of another Facebook group used as a sort of craigslist by residents in the region of West Iceland where the camera was found. A local woman recognized the young woman in the picture and realized she had left her name and contact information in the Tourist Information Centre in the village of Búðardalur. According to Jónas the young woman had managed to travel to Skagafjörður fjord in North Iceland before she was tracked down.
