The famous downtown hot dog stand Bæjarins Beztu has been returned to its original location after having spent three years across the street from its traditional spot. The hot dog stand is an important local institution, having served hot dogs to locals, and more recently foreign travelers, for more than 80 years.
In September 2015 Bæjarins Beztu (the Best in Town) was moved from its location on the eastern corner of Pósthússtræti and Tryggvagata streets to make way for construction work at the site. The hot dog stand didn't move far, as Reykjavík City found it a spot on the western corner of the same intersection. At the time Reykjavík City and the Mayor assured people that the beloved street food stand would not only return to its original location, but would be assured a place of honor befitting its historical and cultural importance as the central attraction of a new small square.
