Iceland elected historian Guðni Th Jóhannesson as the country’s sixth president in yesterday’s presidential election.
According to the National Broadcasting Service, Guðni received 39.08 % of the votes. Businesswoman Halla Tómasdóttir received the second highest number of electoral votes, a total of 29.9 %.
Guðni, a history professor at the University of Iceland, was born in 1968 and married to Canadian Eliza Reid. The couple has four children.
