Here's a map of 2015 New Year's Eve bonfires in Reykjavík 2191

13. mar 2023 20:10

Ten bonfires are organized all over Reykjavík on New Year’s Eve; four large ones and six smaller fires.
All the bonfires will be lit at 8.30 pm, except the one near Úlfarsfell which will be lit at 2 pm and the one in Skildinganes, which will be lit at 9 pm.

Bonfires are a big part of New Year’s Eve celebrations in Iceland, and on January 6, which is the last day of Christmas. As with many other Nordic traditions, this is believed to have a pagan origin.

Ægisíða – large bonfire.
Skerjafjörður, across from Skildinganes 48 – small bonfire
Suðurhlíðar, below Fossvogskirkjugarður cemitary – small bonfire.
Laugarásvegur – small bonfire.
Geirsnef – large bonfire
Suðurfell – small bonfire.
Fylkis bonfire near Lake Rauðavatn – large bonfire.
Gufunes – large bonfire.
Kléberg in Kjalarnes – small bonfire.
Úlfarsfell by the Fisfélagsið grounds – small bonfire.
