Hera Hilmarsdóttir named one of Europe's Shooting Stars during the Berlin International Film Festival 2351

Actress Hera Hilmarsdóttir was named one of Europe’s ten Shooting Stars at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival on Sunday. The awards were presented by actress Natalie Portman.

Nominees are elected by an international jury of experts who select ten young actors based on their latest performance. Hera is perhaps best known for her role as Vanessa in the television series Da Vinci’s Demons and for her role in the film Vonarstræti (Life in a Fishbowl) by director Baldvin Zophoníasson that was selected as Iceland’s entry for the 2015 Best Foreign Language Oscar.

Actress Maisie Williams, best known for her role as Arya Stark in the HBO television series Game of Thrones, was also presented with the award on Sunday.  

The Shooting Star award was introduced in 1998 by European Film Promotion(EFP) and many of today’s most renowned actors have been presented with the award, among them are Daniel Craig, Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz, Daniel Bruhl, Danish actress Iben Hjejle, Franka Potente, Carey Mulligan Matthias Shoenaerts, and Swedes Gustaf Skarsgard and Alicia Vikander as well as Kelly Mcdonald who is known for her roles in Trainspotting and television series Boardwalk Empire.

Other Icelandic actors who have been nominated are Ingvar E. Sigurðsson in 1999 and Baltasar Kormákur in 2001, among others.
