Hard Rock Café could reopen in Reykjavík next year, according to Fréttablaðið newspaper. A Hard Rock Café was run in Kringlan shopping mall from 1987 until 2005.
Restauranteur and investor Birgir Bielvedt, who already owns the Domino‘s and Joe and the Juice franchises in Iceland, hopes to reopen the popular restaurant as soon as next year.
“I believe a Hard Rock Café would fit in well with the local restaurant scene, but it’s all a question of the right location and timing,” Birgir told Fréttablaðið.

Tómas Tómasson, who now runs the legendary Hamborgarabúlla Tómasar (Tommi’s Burger Joint), opened the first Hard Rock Café in 1987 in Kringlan. He sold the rights to the franchise to the investment group Gaumur in 1999 which managed the restaurant until it closed in 2005.
The very first Hard Rock Café was founded in 1971 in London. Currently, there are nearly 200 Hard Rock restaurants, casinos and hotels located in 59 countries all over the world.
