After dark on Friday afternoon the best known landmark in Reykjavík will be transformed into a giant candle. The event is part of a human rights campaign by Amnesty International called Write for Rights.
New signatures keep the light shining
Amnesty explains that by adding your name to the campaign you can light up the dark in the lives of those that suffer great injustices. The signatures also keep the illumination in the giant candle projection alive – if too long passes between signatures the light on Hallgrímskirkja goes off and the flame on the candle is extinguished.
The installation will be lit for 5 days, December 1-5, between 17:00-22:00 (5pm to 10pm).
The Write for Rights campaign runs simultaneously in a number of countries around the world. The goal is to collect signatures for 10 urgent cases of individuals that suffer human rights abuse and to put pressure on governments that are violating human rights. You can view the 10 cases online at www.amnesty.is.
