Voters appear to be rather happy with the Left Green led Grand Coalition which political commentators expect will assume power later this week. A new poll shows that Katrín Jakobsdóttir, the leader of the Left Green Movement, enjoys the support of 49,5% of voters as the next Prime Minister of Iceland.

The poll by the polling firm Zenter was conducted during November 10-21. During this time the leaders of the Left Greens, the conservative Independence Party and the centrist Progress Party were conducting negotiations on the formation of a Grand Coalition. Respondents were asked to name which party leader they would most like to see as the Prime Minister of Iceland. Overwhelming majority named one of the leaders of the three parties engaged in negotiations on the formation of a Grand Coalition: 49.5% named Katrín Jakobsdóttir, 20.5% named the leader of the conservative Independence Party and 10.2% named Sigurður Ingi Jóhannesson, the leader of the centrist Progress Party.
The poll revealed that the one leader of the parties which will most likely form the political opposition which enjoys most support as potential Prime Minister is Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, the leader of the populist right-wing Center Party, and disgraced former PM. Just 5.5% say they would like to see the leader of the Social Democratic Alliance as Prime Minister.
