The popular guide book publisher Roughguides has published it‘s travel trends for the coming year, including the top 10 countries, regions and cities to visit in 2016. This year Reykjavík warms the top spot on the list of top 10 cities to visit, thanks to its arts scene, cool nightlife and the natural wonders which lie at the city‘s doorsteps.
Roughguides are particularly impressed with Reykjavik‘s nightlife:
Amid the colourful scattering of toy-like, painted houses you can gorge on the freshest fish, head out on a famously messy rúntur (round tour) – the Reykjavík residents’ Friday night boozy blowout – or let loose in booming nightclubs…
But, it’s not all about booze or parties. Reykjavík is also a place where you can cure yourself of hangovers, whether they are caused by alcohol consumption the previous Friday night at one of the city’s many bars, or the rush of modern life:
And there’s no better way to tackle your Icelandic hangover than with a dip in one of the country’s steamy hot pools or on the edge of a wind-battered cliff, just a few hours’ drive from this small but brilliant capital.
