The Grótta nature reserve, located on Seltjarnarnes peninsula, has been closed to the public since 1st May due to nesting birds. The popular recreational area will remain closed until 15th July.
According to Morgunblaðið newspaper, many choose to ignore signs and venture into the area despite restrictions.
More signs will be erected over the course of the next few days. The signs will be in Icelandic, English, and German.
