The residents of Grímsey, a small fishing village and the northern settlement of Iceland, have told local media that people have gone about their daily business despite the constant shaking of the island. Five 3+ quakes have been recorded since midnight.

The quakes have been concentrated in a rift valley to the north east of the island. We are used to this stuff, and we refuse to be rattled, Guðbjörg Henningsdóttir, a local resident told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið. However, she added that the larger 3+ quakes which hit yesterday and early morning, were a bit disquieting.

A 4.1 magnitude quake around dinner time yesterday caused some concern among the locals. I admit that the largest quake hit yesterday couldn't be ignored.

Guðbjörg was holding a birthday party for one of her kids when the quake hit. The house was full of kids and parents when the island shook. The adults did take the opportunity to explain the geology of the island to the children. Guðbjörg told Morgunblaðið that the kids were not scared, as all residents are used to frequent tremors.

Morgunblaðið reports that the 90 local residents have been in close conversation with one another because of the quakes. People have offered residents who live alone to sleep over, in case they don't want to be alone in case a big quake hits.

Guðbjörg told Morgunblaðið that the quakes didn't disturb her sleep last night. However, the quakes did wake up her husband who is a fisherman.
