Equally important is the fact that we are finally expected to have clear skies tonight, which allows us to view this magnificent show. The thick cloud cover in the past several days has made it impossible to catch even the shortest glimpses of the aurora in most parts of Iceland. However, the forecast does promise some clouds in parts of West Iceland, especially around Reykjavík in the south-west corner of Iceland.

Aurora hunters are therefore advised to look to the sky and check the weather forecast before heading out to search for the Northern Lights and choose a spot likely to have clear skies. Be sure to dress warmly if you are heading into the night as it will be rather chilly around the country: This handy infographic is also a great resource for preparing for a night of Northern Lights hunting. And keep your eyes on the road, even if they might come on while you are still driving!
