Geologists reckon that a sudden outburst could occur beneath Mýrdalsjökull glacier, similar to what happened three years ago and have thus issued a general warning to the public. However, hundreds of tourists were near the roots of Sólheimajökull glacier, the southwestern outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull icecap, and Múlakvísl river despite the warnings issued by the Civil Protection and Emergency Management in Iceland. Travellers are adviced not to be in the front of the glacier or to close to the river.
Some of the tourists were aware of warnings issued but those who were aware of the warning were even more excited to see the location.
