Parts of seasons two, three, four and seven were shot in Iceland.
The local news site Vísir reports that the production team for Game of Thrones will arrive in February. The precise dates have not been released, and the names of cast members participating in the shooting is still a mystery. The places where the shooting will take place has not been decided yet, as it will depend on the weather.
In the past scenes for Game of Thrones have been shot in Þingvellir National Park on Snæfellsjökull glacier, in Þórsmörk nature preserve, on Höfðabrekuheiði heath and Reynisfjara black sand beach in South Iceland, by Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in South East Iceland at various locations by Mývatn lake in North Iceland, just to name a few of the many locations in Iceland which you might recognize as landscapes in The Known World.
