Game developer CCP raises 30 million USD to strengthen its virtual reality development efforts 2355

CCP Games, a leading independent game developer and the creator of the critically acclaimed science-fiction game EVE Online, has raised 30 million USD to strengthen the company’s virtual reality development efforts.

The funding comes from NEA, a global venture capital firm, and Novator Partners LLP, and will be used to “further position the company to drive innovation in virtual reality as the technology begins to transform the entertainment industry“.

The game developer is scheduled to release two virtual reality games in the next 8 months: EVE: Valkyrie will launch in spring 2016 and Gunjack is scheduled for release later this month.

CCP’s CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, tells Fréttablaðið newspaper that the investment allows the company to continue its development efforts within virtual reality. “NEA has enormous experience and is one of the world’s largest and oldest a global venture capital firms. We are thrilled to have them on board.”

In addition to funding CCP’s VR venture, Harry Weller, General Partner at NEA, has joined CCP’s Board of Directors and Andrew Schoen, also of NEA, will be joining as Deputy Director.
