The District Commissioner in the town of Húsavík, North Iceland, has decided to further restrict access to the eruption site in Holuhraun lava field northwest of Vatnajökull glacier, due to increased unrest at the eruption site. Twi new volcanic fissures have opened up closer to the ice cap of Dyngjujökull outlet in Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. See map below.

Scientists and members of the press have been given a limited access with special permissions to the area, subject to certain terms and conditions. While this uncertainty remains no one will be allowed into the closed area.  Road F910 by Vaðalda peak has also been closed.

According to the website of the Icelandic Civil Protection and Emergency Management this decision will be reviewed in light of  new information.
