Former Pirate Party MP, Jón Þór Ólafsson, began his first day at work as a parking attendant on Tuesday. Jón Þór left his post as MP in 2015, after two years in parliament, to return to his previous day job in road maintenance.

Jón Þór tells Fréttablaðið newspaper that he enjoys the new job and takes pleasure in working outdoors. “I love roaming around the streets and breathe in the sounds and the smell of the city. I think I’ll enjoy this.” His only concern is whether his feet will withstand all the walking required. “The spirit is strong but the flesh is week,” he says with a grin.
A survey conducted by Market and Media Research in December revealed that support for the Pirate Party continues to grow. 35% of voters claimed support for the party, making it Iceland’s most popular political party.
