Travellers who want a chance to view the fjords and mountains of Iceland from the ocean will have plenty of choices this summer. The first of four different cruise ships which will be sailing around Iceland this summer arrived earlier this month. Three more ships are expected to arrive in the next few weeks and begin scheduled services in July and August.
Ocean Diamond, which carries 189 passengers, has already arrived in Iceland taking the first passengers on a cruise around the island. During the winter months the ship sails in Antarctic waters, but spends the summer in the waters around Iceland. The other three ships which will arrive are Star Legend (212 passengers), L’Austral (224-264 passengers) and NG Explorer (148 passengers), the local newspaper Fréttablaðið reports. All four ships are classified as superyachts.

All of the ships make frequent stops during their cruise around Iceland, stopping each day in a different port. In addition to Reykjavík the ports visited are Grundarfjörður and Stykkishólmur on Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland, Flatey Island in the Breiðafjörður Bay in West celand, Ísafjörður in the Westfjords, Vigur Island in Ísafjörður bay in the Westfjords, Grímsey Island off the North coast of Iceland, Siglufjörður and Akurey on the North Coast, Seyðisfjörður, Eskifjörður, Neskaupsstaður and Djúpavogur in the Eastfjords in East Iceland and Vestmanneyjar Islands off the South coast.
