Shortly before nine this morning a serious car crash took place on the road to the town of Grindavík on Reykjanes peninsula, just north of the junction to the Blue Lagoon. Three people were in the two cars.The road was closed for three hours following the accident.
Shortly after noon the Police in the Suðurnes district reported that the 18 year old girl, which had been in one of the two cars had died of her injuries, and that one of the people in the other car had also suffered critical injuries and was in intensive care. The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service Reports that the driver and passenger of the other car were foreign travellers.
Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
