Police in West Iceland reports that last week a group of foreign travellers lost control of their car on a patch of ice and snow while driving Holtavörðuheiði heath which connects West and North Iceland. The car landed flew off the road and rolled over. The group of travellers escaped without any significant inuries, but the car was pronounced dead at the scene and towed off.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority warns motorists that although roads in West and South Iceland are clear of snow or ice, the ring-road in the Westfjords as well as in North and East Iceland has patches of ice and even long very stretches which are slick due to ice and snow.

Travellers are also reminded not to venture onto closed mountain roads. Police In West Iceland reports that it has had to come to the assistance of several groups of foreign travellers who have gotten their cars stuck on closed mountain roads.
