A woman who was diving in the Silfra fissure in Þingvellir National Park was rescued earlier today after she lost conciousness while diving with her husband. According to Police in South Iceland the woman has regained conciousness and appears to be safe and in stable condituion. She was taken to the emergency room at the National University Hospital.
The local news site Vísir reports that first responders were unsure whether they would be able to get the woman to Reykjavík by ambulance due to the severe storm. However, the trip went well, and the woman was taken to the hospital where she is currently recovering. The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reports that the woman had regained conciousness at the scene of the accident, and that she was already in stable condition when the ambulance left with her to Reykjavík.
The local newspaper Morgunblaðið reports that the woman was a foreign traveller, in her early 40s, travelling with her husband.
