A foreign traveller was rushed to the National University Hospital where he underwent an operation after a violent attack on Laugavegur street at 19:00 yesterday evening. The man, who is a Thai national, suffered internal injuries. His condition is not considered critical.
The attack is highly unusual.
Cause of attack unknown
The attack took place in front of the Bonus store on Laugavegur. According to the Metropolitan Police two young Icelandic men attacked the traveller, beating him repeatedly. No weapons were used in the attack. One of the two attackers was caught shortly thereafter. Police is still searching for the other attacker. The cause of the attack is unknown.
Grímur Grímsson, Police Chief Superintendent with the Metropolitan Police told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that the victim was never in critical danger. He suffered significant injuries, as the attack was quite serious.
