Flight mechanics cancel planned work stoppage 488

A twenty-four hour work stoppage by Icelandair flight mechanics, scheduled to take place this morning, has been cancelled. Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, minister of Interior, discussed the matter with members of parliament yesterday and a decision was taken to impose a ban on the strike. However, flight mechanics decided to cancel the planned work stoppage before the ban could be imposed, meaning Icelandair flight schedules will not be affected today.

This was to be the second strike in a series of strikes staged by flight mechanics. The first one took place on Monday morning after months of negotiation talks failed to result in a new wage contract.

The strike meant Icelandair had to cancel 65 flights to and from Keflavík National Airport on Monday, affecting travel plans of roughly twelve thousand people.

Negotiation talks will continue in the days to come.
