Five foreign travellers were taken to the hospital after a car crash in South Iceland this morning. The accident took place on a single-lane bridge over Stóra Laxá river near the village Flúðir.
Head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck
The five travellers were taken to hospital in the town of Selfoss. The Fire Marshall of South Iceland told the local news site Vísir that the injuries of the five travellers are not considered critical. The road, Skeiða- og Hrunamannavegur, Road 30, was closed down while first responders cleared the site.
According to the Police in South Iceland the accident was caused by the travellers driving onto a single lane bridge after a semi-trailer truck had entered the bridge from the opposite direction. The vehicle the travellers were driving then crashed head-on into the truck.

NEVER enter a single-lane bridge if a car has already entered the bridge from the opposite direction, or is about to enter the bridge. Slow down when approaching a single-lane bridge and make absolutely clear the intentions of drivers coming from the opposite direction. Proceed ONLY if there is no oncoming traffic or if any vehicles coming from the opposite direction have come to a complete stop.
