A leg and a second unidentified body part were recently found in the sea by Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. The body parts have been shipped to Reykjavík where DNA tests are being carried out to help identify who the body parts belong to.

According to the local newspaper DV, which first broke the story, the two body parts were found by a fisherman who fished them out of the sea. The body parts were discovered out at sea off the south coast of Snæfellsnes, at a depth of 120 meters (400 ft).
He contacted the Icelandic Coast Guard, as all unusual events at sea, including the discovery of dead bodies, must be reported to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard took possession of the two body parts and handed them over to the Police.
The Police and Coast Guard have so far refused to give any further information about the nature of the find, other than that the results of the DNA study are expected in one or two weeks time.
