Sigríður Björk Guðjónsdóttir has been named the new chief of police in Reykjavík. She is the first woman to serve as head of the Reykjavík Police Department and replaces Stefán Eiríksson in office.
Sigríður was head of the Suðurnes Police Department, Reykjanes peninsula, from 2009.
Asked whether she plans to make any drastic changes while in post, she says it is still early days but stresses that it is inevitable that some changes will follow a new head of department.
“I’d like put more emphasis on tackling domestic violence cases better,” she concludes.
