First snow of winter falls in Reykjavík 2063

Reykjavikings woke up this morning to the beautiful sight of a snow covered ground – the first real snow of winter.
Trucks from the Reykjavík Public Service have been clearing roads since early morning and most major roads and pathways are now clear of snow. Police warn motorists to show caution when driving today.

The weather forecast for the capital area today is good: calm weather but rather cloudy and temperatures just below the zero mark (32 Fahrenheit).

It will become increasingly windy in the northwest today with squally winds reaching 18 metres per second (40 mph/65 km per hour) in the Strandir region. The northern regions will see some snowfall today.  

Road conditions are widely bad, with drifts of snow reported on Hellisheiði and Reykjanesbraut roads.
