According to local newsagent Vísir, film crews are set to return to Iceland once again to film Star Wars: Episode VIII. Last year, a film crew from the Star Wars franchise visited Iceland to shoot scenes for the widely praised Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Vulture.com claims Rian Johnson will write and direct the new film, which is scheduled to come out on 25 May, 2018.

Film crews made a second visit to Iceland last spring to film at the infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier in South Iceland. Crews returned for a third time late September to shoot scenes on Mýrdalssandur beach, south Iceland, although those scenes are reportedly for a different Star Wars movie, titled Rogue One and features Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen.
Website Moviecastingcall.com lists Icelandic production company True North as one the film’s production staff. The company will oversee hiring of experienced film crew members and production staff, and the casting of extras.
