Fiji's PM claims lesbians should go and marry in Iceland 1184

Frank Bainimarama, Fiji‘s prime minister, made international news when he claimed that if a woman wanted to marry another woman they should go and have it done in Iceland and stay and live there.” Adding that “Fiji does not need that rubbish.

The PM’s comment came as a response to the head of the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre, Shamima Ali, after she said Fiji should consider allowing same-sex marriage.

Same-sex marriages have been legal in Iceland since 2010. The country has become a popular destination for gay weddings, with many international couples opting to marry according to Ásatrú, the old, Norse belief.
