The local news site visir.is reports that the farmers at Miðhús fear for the safety of their sheep, as well as the wellbeing of motorists. In a letter to the Road Administration the Miðhús farmers argue growing traffic in recent years has made the situation untenable:
“This last fall we have repeatedly run into trouble getting sheep across the road due to the heavy traffic, and during this past October we lost four ewes just by the farm. This in addition to the damage to vehicles and the psychological shock to the motorists.”
The local municipal authority has seconded the request, asking the Road Administration construct a tunnel which would allow the sheep to cross between fields which are on either side of the road.
