The northern lights were absolutely dazzling over Iceland last night. As we reported yesterday the northern lights forecast for this week is fantastic. According to The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) we can expect clear skies and active or very active northern lights for at least the next to nights also (Tuesday and Wednesday) so if you are in Iceland for Aurora sighting the timing is excellent.
The conditions are ideal in and around the capital area with clear skies and calm weather., as they are indeed, also almost all around the country.
According IMO’s great Aurora forecast service we can expect grade four activity tonight and grade six on Wednesday night. IMO explains that grade 2 (low activity) can be beautiful and grade 3 (moderate) can be dazzling. Grade six is very active.
IMO builds its forecast on combined information on aurora activity, cloud cover, sunlight and moonlight
The video below was captured last night by arcticdrone.is. It’s real time (not time-lapse which can greatly exaggerate the activity) and filmed on a Sony a7sII full frame mirrorless camera.
