A small number of local businesses have joined hands in an effort to get members of supporters’ club Tólfan to Paris on Sunday for Iceland’s match against France.
Earlier this week, local media reported that none of Tólfan’s members had been able to secure tickets to Sunday’s match or seats on one of the flights from Iceland to Paris. However, with some group effort, 22 members of the supporters’ club will now be able to attend the game.

“It’s clear that fans’ support is extremely important to the team. That’s why we wanted to lend a helping hand,” said Bjarni Ákason, who works for Epli, one of the businesses that came to Tólfan’s assistance.
Ólafur Hand with Eimskip, another business supporting Tólfan, told Vísir: “Playing the home-team is challenging enough. That’s why it’s important that Iceland receives all the support it can get. The team needs the energy that Tólfan brings to the field.”
The Iceland fans have received nearly as much attention as the national team, most notably for what has become known as the “Viking war cry”.
In an interview with Vísir, Tólfan’s founder, Styrmir Gíslason, said he was overwhelmed by the support. “This has been total madness. At first none of us was going to Paris, now 22 of us will be attending the game.”
