A group of kids in Ísafjörður fjord have come up with the cutest start-up in the Icelandic tourism industry, offering travellers to meet and hug their two lambs for just 100 ISK or one US Dollar!

An Icelandic version of the lemonade stand

The kids, who are aged 8 and 10, who just finished their school year and are starting summer vacation, got the idea of the lamb-cuddling business when they saw a cruise ship sail into harbour in the town of Ísafjörður earlier this morning.

They then put up a small stand at the side of the road, put up a sign advertising their business and waited for customers.

Martha Sigríður Örnólfsdóttir, the mother of two of the kids, posted a photo of the wonderful little business venture on Facebook. She told the local news site Vísir that the kids had been searching for something to do today when they came up with the business idea:

We own a flock of sheep, but keep them in Önundarfjörður fjord. The lambing season is over, but we are stuck with two bum lambs which will have to be raised by us here at home. This morning the kids saw a cruise ship arriving in the harbour, and there are always some travellers who go past our house. The kids therefore decided to put up a sign by the road and offer these services!

The sign simply reads Meet Lambs and Hug them for 100 KR or  1 dollor

The kids then sat down in the yard waiting patiently for customers. Asked by Vísir whether the lamb-hugging business had gotten many customers Martha said that so far the kids hadn't gotten any, but pointed out that summer was just starting:

The travellers who have driven by seem to have liked the idea, it's primarily tour buses who drive along the road here, but the kids did certainly get a few smiles.

We at Iceland Insider certainly hope that these young tourism industry entrepreneurs get more business in the next few days, and would like to encourage anyone visiting the Westfjords to look up the lamb hugging business outside the town of Ísafjörður! We would also like to declare the lamb hugging stand of Ísafjörður the Best Icelandic Tourism Start-Up of 2017. Or at least the cutest!
