The Icelandic crime series Trapped have attracted a significant fan base in the UK where they have been airing for the past few weeks. Viewers and critics alike have praised the series. The main character, the lovable and burly Andri, played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, was declared an “unlikely sex symbol” by the UK newspaper The Guardian.

But it is not the unkempt Andri who has caught viewers' attention. His partner, the small but determined police woman Hinrika, played by Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir, has her fans as well.

English twitter and tumbler user Redscharlach produced this “Moominesque doodle” of Hinrika, casting her in the role of the tiny, but strong willed character Little My.

Enjoying BBC Four’s latest Scandinavian offering, the Icelandic series Trapped. I especially love diminutive but indomitable policelady Hinrika, so here’s a Moominesque doodle of her.

We at Iceland Insider find that re-imagining Hinrika as a Little My is particularly fitting. The strong-willed and whimsical Little My is one of the main characters of Tove Jansson's novel Moominland Midwinter (1957). Since the novel is more introspective and darker than some of the other Moomin novels it is particularly well suited to be adapted as a crime drama, set in an isolated fishing village in Iceland. In this adaption Ólafur Darri would of course play the Moomin troll, but we leave it to our readers to pair other characters in the novel and the TV-series.
