The Icelandic electronica festival Extreme Chill Festival Undir jökli (beneath the glacier) will take place beneath the Snæfellsjökull glacier in Hellissandur during the weekend 7-9 August. This is the sixth time the festival is held.
Hellissandur is a tiny fishing village on the westernmost tip of Snæfellsnes peninsula on the edge of the Snæfellsnes National Park. The Snæfellsjökull glacier towers over the village, creating a unique experience. The glacier, as everyone knows, provided the entry into the centre of the earth in Jules Verne‘s Journey to the Center of the Earth. The Guardian has chosen the festival „Europe‘s most picturesque festival location“.
Techno legends and up and coming acts
This year‘s line-up includes a number of Icelandic and international acts, including the British techno legend Mixmaster Morris, who organized the live acid house concept, the Madhouse in 1988, which is widely credited as the first live techno event in London. Among the Icelandic acts is Dj Flugvél og Geimskip, which is one of the most promising Icelandic musicians of today.
Other acts include the performance artist Snorri Ásmundsson, who has made a name for himself with disturbing social norms and values. Recently Snorri has been advertising for a volunteer who is willing to let him dance with his dead body.
