The Eldheimar museum in Vestmannaeyjar Islands is nominated for the 2015 Icelandic Design Award, reports Eyjar.net. The first Icelandic Design award took place last year, then recognising the outstanding work of Designs from Nowhere.
The Eldheimar museum and its surroundings was designed by Kristín Ólafsdóttir, landscape architect, Margrét Kristín Gunnarsdóttir, architect, Axel Hallkell Jóhannsson, and Gagarín, an interactive media solutions company.

In 2005, the Vestmannaeyjar town council agreed to take part in a project that involved excavating ten houses that had been buried under lava since the 1973 eruption, and a construction of a visitors’ centre where people can view the houses and learn more about this extraordinary event. The project was completed in 2013, on the dramatic events’ 40th anniversary.
