The use of drones has been banned in the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park. According to the news website Vísir, the ban was enforced to protect nesting gyrfalcon couples in the area.

Drones are therefore banned at Dettifoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon and Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, among other places. Guðmundur Ögmundsson, a park ranger in Vatnajökull National Park, says the decision was primarily taken to protect wildlife in the area and to ensure guests can experience the park in peace and quiet.
