Driving conditions on heath and mountain roads in East and North East Iceland, including the Ring Road where it crosses heaths could become dangerous due to ice and slick patches, the Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has cautioned.
The IRCA warns that ice and slick patches could be found on the Ring Road on Möðrudalsöræfi heath, which connects N.E. and E. Iceland. The Icelandic Meteorological Office expects possible snow showers and sleet in parts of the Eastfjords, which could create slick patches on mountain and heath roads.
Drivers are especially advised to take care when driving Vopnafjarðarheiði heath, connecting the Ring Road and the village of Vopnafjörður, as well as Fjarðarheiði heath, connecting the Ring Road and the town of Seyðisfjörður. Remember to always check road conditions with the IRCA and the weather forecast with the IMO before heading out!
