Dozen foreign motorists charged with speeding last week 1804

A dozen foreign motorists were charged with speeding last week, reports the National Broadcasting Service. All motorists were stopped by the police in the vicinity of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, South Iceland.

Two motorists were caught driving at 149 km per hour (92.5 mph) on Ring Road 1 where the speed limit is 90 kilometres per hour (60 mph). Another was caught speeding at 142 km per hour (88.2 mph).

Local police has expressed concern regarding the matter as many foreign visitors are unfamiliar with driving in snow and icy conditions.
“Speeding is an ongoing issue that needs to be fixed,” said Superintendent Þorgrímur Óli Sigurðsson.
