Icelandic doctors have staged another two day-strike to press for higher pay. This is the third strike in a series of strikes staged by doctors – this time geriatric physicians and emergency physicians are the ones refusing to work and will only attend to emergencies during that time.
The strikes are staged in hope of getting the government to meet doctors’ demands for a pay rise of 30 percent. However, the disputing parties have not been able to come to an agreement, with the Minister of Finance, Bjarni Benediktsson, even deeming the demands absurd.
The fourth strike is scheduled to begin at midnight on Wednesday when psychiatrists and surgeons will refuse to work for two days.
