On Tuesday a local woman picked up the young woman in the photo above as a hitchhiker in West Iceland. The older woman drove the hitchhiker to the camping area in Búðardalur, a small village by Hvammsfjörður fjord. After having dropped the hitchhiker off the older woman discovered that she had left her camera in the car. She returned immediately to the campgrounds, but the young woman had already left.
Now the older woman and her son, Jónas Þrastarson, are appealing to the internet for help in finding the hitchhiker so that the camera can be returned to her. In a post to a Facebook community used by Icelandic tour guides and others in the tourism industry Jónas says the dates on the photographs on the camera suggest the couple has been travelling in Iceland with the man in the photo since 30 May. The couple seems to have been staying in a tent during its stay, and that they have been hitchhiking across South and West Iceland. The young woman is most likely from Germany, Jónas adds.
Losing your camera when on vacation can put a serious dent into an otherwise great experience. Not only can it be a financial blow (who wants to buy a new camera on top of the airline tickets, hotels and other expenses!) but you also lose the photographs you have taken to remind you of the great memories. We at Iceland Insider therefore sincerely hope that our readers can help locate the young woman in the photograph so that she can get her camera back!
If you know the people in the photo send a message to us at Iceland Insider, [email protected], and we will do our best to help Jónas and his mother contact the German hitchhiker!
