DEVELOPING: Car linked to disappearance of young local woman connected crew of a trawler from Greenland 5887

According to multiple sources the red Kia Rio automobile which police believes is connected to the disappearance of 20 year old local woman, Birna Brjánsdóttir, had been rented to crewmembers of a fishing vessel from Greenland, Polar Nanoq. The vessel was in harbour in Hafnarfjörður, but left to sea on Saturday evening. Birna disappeared early Saturday morning. Birna's boots were found in the harbour area, close to where the ship had been docked.

The local newspaper Morgunblaðið reports that the car can be seen on security camera footage in the harbour of Hafnarfjörður. The local news site Vísir reports that the Metropolitan Police has requested the crew manifesto of the ship, which has sailed to sea. According to the marine tracking site MarineTraffic.com the ship is currently fishing in Greenland waters.

Earlier: Shoes which match those worn by Birna were found early Tuesday morning in Hafnafjörður, south of Reykjavík. Police does not rule out the shoes were planted at the scene. All available Police and Search and Rescue members are searching in and around Hafnafjörður harbour.

Earlier: Tuesday afternooon found what it believes is the red Kia Rio seen in security camera footage just seconds before she was last spotted on CCTV footage in down town Reykjavík. The car was likely driven by foreign nationals. The driver is seen behaving suspiciously shortly after Birna's cellphone is turned off at 5:50 AM.
