At three in the morning on Thurday Police in South Iceland came to the assistance of two American women who had broken into a summer cottage by Þingvallavatn lake. The local news site visir.is reports that two women had rented a cottage on the east shore of the lake and were on their way to the cottage when their car got stuck in snow. Despite strong winds, rain and deep wet snow, the women tried to continue on foot.
After a while searching for the cottage the weather got the better of the two women who gave up. At three in the morning they broke into the nearest cottage and called for help. Police officers from the town of Selfoss in South Iceland arrived promptly, helping the two women finding the correct cottage.
The women declined any further assistance, despite being both cold and wet after the night’s events. According to visir.is the women promised to pay for any damages they caused to the cottage they broke into.
