Design for new visitor centre in Þingvellir National Park chosen 2448

The architectural company Gláma Kím won the contest to design the extension to the Þingvellir Visitor Centre, reports Morgunblaðið newspaper. The decision was taken by the Thingvellir Commission, who manages Þingvellir National Park.

The Visitor Centre at Hak will be extended from 200 square metres to 1,000 square metres (10764 sq ft) and its facilities improved considerably. The new building will fit in seamlessly with its surroundings.

Þingvellir National Park is located in South Iceland, a 45 minute drive from downtown Reykjavík. The area is one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations and of great historical, cultural and geological importance.
