13. mar 2023 20:22

Beginning next year Delta Airlines will increase their service between the US and Iceland, extending their service from four months over the summer to seven months. The 2016 schedule will begin on February 11, rather than in May, with three flights weekly in February-March and daily flights beginning in May.

Delta flies between JFK in New York and Keflavík International Airport since 2011, and is currently the only US airline offering direct service between the US and Iceland. The route has been a great success, with Delta carrying over 140,000 passengers between Iceland and the United States since 2011. The current extension of the service is in response to growing demand, which Nat Pieper, the Senior Vice President of Delta for Europe, the Middle East and Africa expects to continue. He also expects the flights will add options for Icelandic travellers to the US:

The U.S. now ranks highest in terms of international visitor numbers to Iceland, and by operating for those additional months we will support further growth in inbound tourism, as well as provide easy one-stop connections for customers flying from Iceland to destinations throughout North America.
